Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark actively responds to "Weaving Hope" project

In responding to this project, each Geopark will send at least a piece of traditional textile, which best represents their territory to the 11th International Conference of UNESCO Global Geoparks 2025, taking place from 8-12September, 2025 in Kutralkura UNESCO Global Geopark, Chile. The collected textile pieces will be combined to create a large texttile to be proudly displayed at the conference venue. This remarkable artwork, interweaving colorful threads, symbolizes our network’s connection, the uniqueness of our cultural heritage, and our commitment to inclusive, holistic, and sustainable human development. After the conference, the intention is to offer this creation to UNESCO to be placed at UNESCO HQ, Paris, as a symbol of borderless cooperation and solidarity among Geoparks.
In response to this meaningful initiative, the Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp has sent to the Conference a piece of traditional brocade of the Tay ethnic group in Cao Bang. The textile is woven with a traditional loom, sewn on a natuturally indigo-dyed fabric base. The decorative patterns on the brocade are grouped into main categories: geometric motifs, realistic representations of plants and animals, and spiritual symbols that reflect the profound spiritual life of the local communities. Each pattern does not only represent the skillfulness and aesthetic sense of Tay women but also vividly conveys the cultural memory, folk beliefs, and indigenous knowhow that have been passed down through generations.
By participating in this project, the Non nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark demonstrates its commitment to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values while conveying a message of harmony between cultural and natural heritage and sustainable development goals.
Through the “Weaving Hope” project, UNESCO Global Geoparks not only reaffirm their role in conserving natural resources and safeguarding indigenous cultures but also contribute to fostering connections among communities worldwide, toward a future of harmonious, cooperative, and sustainable development.
