Dam Thuy Enhances the Appeal of Heritage Destinations

Home to eight heritage sites within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, Dam Thuy Commune is one of the localities with the highest concentration of heritage sites in the geopark. Featuring outstanding geological, landscape, and cultural values, the area plays an important role in the journey of domestic and international visitors exploring the mountainous border region of Cao Bang.
In recent years, Dam Thuy Commune has implemented various measures to preserve and promote the values of its heritage sites in association with tourism development. These efforts have gradually enhanced the attractiveness of local destinations while contributing to the socio-economic development of the community.
From the echoing sound of Ban Gioc Waterfall amid the mountains and forests, the enchanting beauty of Nguom Ngao Cave, and the ancient stone houses of Khuoi Ky Village, to the distinctive flavour of Trung Khanh chestnuts, each heritage site in Dam Thuy carries its own unique identity. The harmonious combination of natural landscapes, traditional cultural values, and local community life creates a diverse experiential space, helping Dam Thuy become one of the most attractive destinations on the exploration journey through the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark.
Alongside direct communication activities at the local level, Dam Thuy Commune has actively promoted the application of digital technology and social media platforms to introduce its image and spread the values of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark to residents and visitors. Through official information channels, fan pages, and local communication platforms, a wide range of content featuring heritage sites, scenic landscapes, cultural traditions, and distinctive tourism products has been regularly shared. In coordination with the Management Board of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, local agencies, organizations, and residents have also organized numerous environmental protection activities, contributing to creating a greener, cleaner, and more attractive destination while raising community awareness of heritage conservation.
To improve the management and protection of heritage sites, the commune has established community-based monitoring groups involving local residents and grassroots forces. These groups regularly observe the condition of heritage sites, promptly identify and report activities that may negatively affect heritage values, and coordinate with local authorities in conservation, management, and promotion efforts. Through these initiatives, the role of local communities in heritage preservation has been increasingly strengthened, creating an important foundation for sustainable conservation and development within the geopark.
Dam Thuy has also focused on investing in infrastructure and facilities serving visitors. The Geopark Information Centre in the commune has been constructed and put into operation, serving as a place to introduce and provide information about the geological, cultural, and historical values of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark. The visitor pathways and facilities inside Nguom Ngao Cave have also been upgraded to improve connectivity and visitor experience.
Ms. Hoang Thi Hue, Deputy Director of the Management Board of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, stated:

The Management Board works closely with the locality in landscape conservation, environmental protection, support for developing distinctive tourism products, and capacity building for communities participating in tourism activities. The goal is not only to attract visitors but also to gradually empower local residents to become key actors in preserving and promoting heritage values, contributing to sustainable tourism development."
In addition to its rich heritage system, Dam Thuy is also home to many partners within the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark network. The commune currently has numerous accommodation facilities, restaurants, and tourism service providers participating in the geopark partner network, including Lan's Homestay, Saigon - Ban Gioc Tourist, Ban Gioc Quay Son, and many other community-based tourism households. By meeting the criteria of the partner network, these businesses not only improve service quality for visitors but also actively promote local geological, cultural, and human values. They serve as important contributors to spreading the values of the geopark and gradually building a friendly, professional, and sustainable destination image.
Heritage sites in the commune, including Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave, and Khuoi Ky Stone Village, continue to attract large numbers of visitors from within and outside the province. The growing appeal of these destinations demonstrates the effectiveness of heritage conservation and promotion efforts, while also creating important momentum for Dam Thuy to develop tourism in association with the title of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark.
